CrutchVerse Something to Lean On

About Jared

Jared Baker

I didn't plan to write a book. Honestly, I just started sharing the way I studied: one verse at a time, slowly and honestly, letting God's Word shape how I think, how I respond, and how I walk with Him.

I sent those short reflections to my congregation. Then family and friends asked to be included. Eventually, I started posting them on Facebook. More and more people began telling me I should turn them into a book. I wasn't sure, so I prayed about it. Over time, I felt like this was something God wanted me to do. Not to build my name. Not because I had something new to say. But because maybe the way I had learned to lean on His Word could help somebody else learn to lean too.

Some of that came from nearly thirty years of pastoring and walking with people through addiction, loss, failure, burnout, restoration, and grace. Some came from my own failures and the things God had to teach me the hard way. And some came later, through foster-parent training and going back to college for a degree in psychology. Those experiences taught me more about how people think, respond, hurt, heal, and relate to one another.

They also humbled me. I began to recognize that God had been teaching me something I hadn't always understood: His Word doesn't just speak to what I believe. It should affect how I think, how I behave, and how I treat people. That's why every CrutchVerse eventually comes back to those three places: mindset, behavior, and relationships.

But after everything I've learned, studied, preached, and experienced, I still come back to something remarkably simple: God's Word holds. That's really where CrutchVerse came from.
